With Active Trader Pro, we've created a consistent experience across both the desktop and web Active Trader platforms; the biggest difference is accessibility. Active Trader Pro is a desktop application that requires a download to install and Windows Operating System. If you do not want to download the application, or if you use a Mac, the web-based ActiveTraderPro.com will meet your needs. There are some features in the desktop platform that are not available on the web version due to technical limitations: streaming time & sales, floating windows, alert message pop-ups, and the number of open instances of certain tools will differ.

No, the desktop does not have the same minimum tool instances as the web-based version and the desktop also supports multiple layouts, so layouts cannot be shared.
Tabs in the main navigation bar give you easy access to Accounts, Trade & Orders, Quotes & Watch List, Options, News & Research, Alerts, and Charts. Within each tab is a dropdown menu with multiple tools you can use to help make smarter trading decisions. Use the quick-launch buttons on the left side of the navigation to access Trade, Orders, and Quote tools with one click.
Trade Armor is an innovative visual approach to trading and risk management that lets you explore and manage profit and loss scenarios and then enact an entry or exit strategy using trades and alerts. Trade Armor offers a consolidated view of key information needed to make informed trading decisions, including: position level unrealized and year-to-date realized gain/loss information, charts with support and resistance levels, quotes, research with Equity Summary Score, and the latest news headlines. Trade Armor provides the ability to quickly and easily create equity, ETF, and option trades, showing the estimated gain or loss based on the order price, and replacing an order is a simple as dragging the open order price indicator to your new desired price. Use Trade Armor to place a variety of orders, such as limits, stops, stop limits, trailing stops, and brackets. If you prefer to use alerts, creating and managing alerts is also as easy as dragging and dropping the alert to a price point on the chart.
There are three themes available: white, blue, and black. Use the Settings menu> General Settings to adjust. While in Settings, be sure to make yourself familiar with the other user defined setting available.
Yes, to access the Directed Trade ticket, click on Trade & Orders from the main navigation menu and choose Directed Trade & Extended Hours. This ticket offers extended hours trading, as well as a view into market depth. Use Settings for directed trading to enable advanced order types, such as reserve orders, or to create shortcut buttons for rapid order entry.
The depth of book is found in the Directed Trade ticket, under Trade and Orders > Directed Trade & Extended Hours. The Level 2 data, is a combination of multiple data sources in the depth of book view, including NASDAQ TotalView and the NYSE ArcaBook.
Click on any bid or offer within the book to populate the trade ticket. Details will include action, quantity, order type, price and route.
Note: you can set a maximum book quantity in settings if you prefer not to populate the entire quoted size.
Yes, you will have the ability to preview the order in the Directed Trade tool. If you wish to skip the preview or confirmation steps for your trades, go to General Trade Settings.
Yes, the directed trade ticket and depth of book view provide a full liquidity view of ARCA and NSDQ in pre and post market sessions and is available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. You may also use Day+ time in force to allow an order to span sessions within the trading day. Day+ orders stay active from the time placed until 8 p.m. ET.
You can view shares available to short in either the Quote tool by clicking Show next to Shortable Shares or in the Trade Tickets when selling short. If you see an HTB icon next to the share quantity, these shares are hard to borrow and require you to pay a financing charge. To see the borrowing costs, simply hover your mouse over the HTB icon.
You can view up to 30 days of intraday and historical time & sales information in the Time & Sales Tool found under the Quotes & Watch List menu.
Note: Streaming Time & Sales is also available in the Directed Trade tool in the ATP desktop platform.
Click the Trade & Orders tab on the main navigation menu and choose Multi-Trade. The multi-trade ticket lets you stage and save up 50 orders, which may be placed individually or simultaneously. In order to select multiple orders for submission or deletion, use shift+click or ctrl+click. Shift+click lets you select a group of rows, ctrl+click lets you select individual rows.
To place a conditional order, click the Trade & Orders tab on the main navigation menu, then choose Conditional Trade. The Conditional Trade ticket window will display within ActiveTraderPro.com where you can select from Contingent, One Cancels the Other (OCO), One Triggers the Other (OTO), and One Triggers an OCO (OTOCO) trade types. You can also place conditional orders in Trade Armor with an intuitive drag and drop interface.
Yes, use the tab key on your PC to tab between fields on the trade ticket. When your cursor is in the action field, type the first letter of the action you are looking to perform. For example, typing the letter S in the action field will populate ‘sell’. Typing SS will populate ‘sell short.’ From the quantity field, use the up and down arrow keys to the quantity of shares and any other numerical value. To streamline the process even further, go to Settings menu then select Trade to customize the standard directed trade, option trade, and multi-trade tickets to your specifications. All quantity and price fields on trade tickets can be increased or decreased using your mouse scroll wheel. Quantity updates in increments of 100 shares for equities and by the contract for options while all price field updates in increments of a penny.
Yes, go to the Settings menu, select Trade and click on Directed Trade (or right-click within the directed trade ticket and select Settings), then click on the Stock Shortcuts tab. You can select up to six shortcut buttons (preset or custom).
The Probability calculator is informative for both equity and option traders as it can help to determine the probability of an underlying equity or index trading above, below, or between certain price targets on a specified date. The Probability Calculator is a research tool that allows investors to model various price movements based on volatility inputs.
Both equity and option traders can use the information within Key Option Statistics and Today's Biggest Trades to learn about the overall market volume, volatility and investor sentiment for an underlying security. The Profit/Loss calculator will allow you to add simulated positions, including just stock, to show you profit and loss levels over time and let you customize the criteria around your parameters.
