What is an alert?

An alert is a message containing market or portfolio information. You can schedule alerts to be sent to a number of different devices. With alerts, you can:

  • Monitor activity and trading in your accounts
  • Track the price of a particular security
  • Receive account balances and positions
  • Be notified of stock, bond, and mutual fund events
  • Subscribe to market commentaries and reports

Where can I receive alerts?

All Fidelity alerts can be delivered via email. Some of our alerts are also available via SMS text message, Active Trader Pro® platform, and mobile push notification.

How do I sign up for alerts?

You can subscribe for alerts at any time in the Alert Center. In addition, upon providing Fidelity with a valid email address, you will automatically receive money movement alerts and FDIC insurance notifications if your account has an FDIC position. If you do not wish to receive these alerts, you can unsubscribe and/or update your alert offering in the Alerts Center.

What's a delivery address?

A delivery address is the address (i.e., an email address or mobile number) to which your alert is sent.

How do I set up a delivery address?

To set up a delivery address:

  • Select Research > Alerts
  • On the Alerts Summary page, select Manage Email & Cell Phone
  • On the Manage Email & Cell Phone page, enter an email address, and select a format (HTML or Plain Text) for your alerts

In what format can I receive alerts?

You can receive alerts in plain text or HTML format.

How do I put my alerts on hold?

If you're going on vacation, or if you don't want to receive your alerts for a specified period of time, you can put your alerts on hold. By putting your alerts on hold, you don't have to delete or change any of your alerts settings.

To put your alerts on hold:

  • Select Research > Alerts
  • On the Alerts Summary page, select Place Alerts on Hold
  • Select a Start Date and an End Date, then Save

Your alerts will become active again on the date you specified. To activate them sooner, return to the Place Alerts on Hold page and select Activate Alerts.

What events trigger a Trade Notification and Order Status alert?

The following trading events trigger a Trade Notification and Order Status alert:

  • Equity
    • Execution
    • Cancellation
    • Partial Fill
    • Expiration (order not filled by end of trading day)
  • Options
    • Execution
    • Cancellation
    • Partial Fill
    • Expiration (order not filled by end of trading day) Assignments
  • Mutual Funds
    • Execution
  • Fixed Income
    • Execution Cancellation Partial Fill
    • Cancel (order not filled, canceled by broker dealer.)

When will a Trade Request Received alert be sent?

Fidelity will notify you that your instructions to enter a trade, either a buy order or a sell order, have been received. You can then view your order status by visiting the Orders menu on Portfolio Summary.

What is a Margin Call alert?

Margin Call alerts are sent when your account margin equity falls below Fidelity's requirement.

What is a Voluntary Reorganization (Tender Offer) alert?

Voluntary Reorganization alerts act as a reminder to participants who have not yet acted upon an outstanding Tender Offer. A Tender Offer is a public offering to all stockholders of a publicly traded corporation to tender their stock for sale at a specified price for a specified time.

When will I receive a FDIC Insurance Notification alert?

The FDIC Insurance Notification alert is triggered when there is an indication that your core position balance may exceed the applicable FDIC coverage limits. For more information about FDIC insurance coverage please visit www.FDIC.gov.

If you choose to unenroll from the FDIC Insurance Notification alert, Fidelity will notify you via letter, at the address of record on the account, if we believe that your core balance may exceed the applicable FDIC insurance coverage limits. You will not receive a letter more than once every 12 months.

What type of News and Research would I receive?

News and Research alerts include the following:

  • Company headlines for the companies in your portfolio or watch list
  • Analyst actions, including recommendation changes
  • Company events and corporate actions (e.g., earning release dates, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, officer changes, dividend rate changes, ex–dividend dates)
  • Trading activity and technical indicators such as new 52–week highs or 52–week lows, large 1– or 5–day price changes, and very high 1– or 10–day volumes

When will a Check Paid alert be sent?

A Check Paid alert will be sent when a check is received and applied to your payment using Fidelity Checkwriting features.

What types of monetary deposits are included in the Deposit Received alert?

A Deposit Received alert will be sent when monetary funds are deposited into your account. Examples include your paycheck, Social Security check, and/or a Federal Tax Refund. This included deposits that are mailed, made in an investor center, submitted via the Fidelity Mobile app, or sent electronically.

What triggers a Deposit Issue alert?

Fidelity will notify you in the event a check you deposited is unable to be paid by the bank it is drawn from, such as in the case of insufficient funds.

What is a Check Distribution alert?

If you request a check disbursement from one of your accounts, Fidelity will alert you when the check is processed and ready for mailing.

When will a Check Distribution Not Processed alert be sent?

Fidelity will notify you in the event a check disbursement that you requested is unable to be processed.

What kind of problems trigger an Electronic Funds Transfer Failure alert?

If an electronic fund transfer using Fidelity's Money Line service between your bank and Fidelity fails for any reason, an alert will be generated, whether the transfer is a one–time transfer or an automatic investment transfer. Typical failures include an incorrect bank account number, insufficient funds in either your bank or Fidelity account, etc. Bank wire transactions do not trigger Electronic Funds Transfer Failure alerts.

What is the difference between the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Sent alert and the EFT Received alert?

An EFT Sent alert informs you that money has been transferred from your Fidelity account to your bank account. An EFT Received alert informs you that money has been transferred from your bank account to your Fidelity account.

When will an Electronic Funds Transfer Set-up Initiated alert be triggered?

Fidelity will notify you when we receive your request to establish standing instructions enabling you to transfer money between your Fidelity account and your checking or savings account. Fidelity will initiate an electronic link with your bank, which may take 7-10 business days to complete.

Why would I receive an Electronic Funds Transfer Set-up Issue alert?

Fidelity will notify you in the event we are unable to establish an electronic link between your Fidelity account and your checking or savings account. You will need to correct your bank information in order to setup the electronic transfer feature.

What kind of Fidelity accounts are covered by Check Returned alerts?

Check Returned alerts are sent when a check you wrote from one of the following Fidelity fund or brokerage retail accounts was returned:

  • Non-retirement accounts
  • Retirement accounts (excluding employer sponsored plans such as a 401(k) plan)

When is a Mutual Fund/Equity Distribution alert sent?

Mutual Fund/Equity Distribution alerts provide a notification that a mutual fund or stock you hold in your account has paid a dividend or capital gain distribution. The alert is sent the first business day after the distribution is paid. You will receive one alert per mutual fund/equity position, regardless of how many accounts hold the particular security.

What is a Fixed Income alert? What types are available?

Fixed Income alerts notify you of important events that affect positions you own, or announce the availability of new issues. These alerts include:

  • Events
    Triggered when one of your bond or CD positions is upgraded, downgraded, or placed on credit watch by Moody's or Standard & Poor's.
  • Bond/CD Redemptions
    Triggered when one of your bond or CD positions matures, or is called.
  • Request a Bid Quote
    Check the latest price on a bond before you sell. Call a Fixed Income Specialist (800-544-5372) to initiate the request and receive the quote as an alert.
  • New Issue Offerings (Taxable)
    Treasury Note auctions and weekly samples of current new issue Agency, Certificate of Deposit, and Corporate Note offerings.
  • New Issue Offerings (Tax–Exempt)
    New issue municipal offerings based on state(s) you select.
  • Auto Roll alert
    For customers looking to reinvest the maturing principal from an initial treasury/CD investment on an ongoing basis into a similar security.

When is a Price Trigger sent?

Price triggers are sent when certain criteria are met. Each price trigger has its own criteria:

  • Price Rises Above ($) / Falls Below ($)
    An alert is sent when the security's last trade price rises above or falls below the price you specified.
  • Price Increases/Decreases by % Since Previous Close
    An alert is sent when the security's price increases or decreases by the percentage of dollar value per share that you specify. This percentage change only applies to one trading day's activity, and is based on the previous day's closing price.

    For example: You set a Price Increases/Decreases by % trigger for stock XYZ to alert you when XYZ's price increases by 3%.
    • On Day 1, XYZ's price increases 2%. No Price Increases/Decreases by % alert is sent.
    • On Day 2, XYZ's price increases 2%. Again, no Price Increases/Decreases by % alert is sent.
    • On Day 3, XYZ's price increases 3.5%. A Price Increases/Decreases by % alert is sent.
  • 52–Week High/Low
    An alert is sent when the security's price renews its 52–week high or low during a regular trading session.
  • Exponential Moving Average (20, 50, 200)
    An alert is sent when the security's price crosses above or below the security's exponential moving average line for the period you specified.

Note: Price triggers are only generated from market data received by the NYSE, NYSE Arca, and NASDAQ. Regional exchange data and third market data is filtered due to past experiences with invalid trigger prices.

What is the daily limit for Price Trigger alerts?

The limit for price alerts you can receive in a day is 100. Once 100 price alerts are sent to you on a given day, you will receive no more until the next trading day.

What happens when a Price Trigger is reached?

When a price trigger is reached, an alert is sent to you, and the price trigger "expires." Expired price trigger alerts display on the Expired Triggers page for 90 days. You can reactivate or update and reactivate an expired price trigger.

Note: 52–Week High/Low and Exponential Moving Average price triggers will not expire. You must delete those alerts.

Where can I find more information about a fund mentioned in a Fidelity Fund Events alert?

Fidelity Funds Events alerts provide information about funds that will be opening or closing. An alert will also be generated if an existing Fidelity fund is reopening to investors. Use the link provided in the alert to find out more in the Mutual Funds section of Fidelity.com. Fund Opening or Reopening alerts will be sent on the first day of trading. Fund Closing alerts will be sent on the day of the actual close date.
