08:23 AM EDT, 03/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Friday's premarket activity, ahead of a key inflation report amid continuing tariff uncertainty.
US stock futures also edged lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.2% before the start of regular trading.
The personal income and outlays report for February will be released at 8:30 am ET and includes the personal consumption expenditure core price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation metric.
The final University of Michigan consumer sentiment report for March will be posted at 10 am ET, followed by the weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count at 1 pm ET.
Fed Governor Michael Barr is slated to speak at 12:15 pm ET while Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic speaks at 3:45 pm ET.
In premarket actvitiy, bitcoin was down by 2.3% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 2.4% lower.

Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was down 0.1%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was up 0.4%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) was flat. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
Lululemon Athletica ( LULU ) shares were down more than 12% pre-bell after the company overnight provided a fiscal Q1 outlook below analyst estimates.

Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) advanced 0.4% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Rocket Lab USA ( RKLB ) stock was up 9% before the opening bell after the company said late Thursday it has been selected for an up to $5.6 billion contract from the US Space Force for its National Security Space Launch phase 3 lane 1 program.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) retreated 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was down 0.2%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.5% higher.
W. R. Berkley ( WRB ) shares were up more than 6% pre-bell Friday after the company said that Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance has agreed to buy 15% of its stock through open market purchases or private transactions with third parties.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.2%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 0.2% lower, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was inactive. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) was down 0.2%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) declined 0.3%.
Emeren Group ( SOL ) shares were up nearly 2% in recent Friday premarket activity after the company said it has appointed Julia Xu as interim chief executive to succeed Yumin Liu, who is stepping down as CEO on April 30.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) edged down 0.03%.
Woodside Energy ( WDS ) stock was up 1.7% before Friday's opening bell after the company said it agreed with oil and gas company Perenco to divest its Greater Angostura assets in Trinidad and Tobago for $206 million.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) advanced 0.01%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 0.4% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.1% higher.
Sanofi ( SNY ) stock was up 1.5% premarket while Regeneron Pharmaceuticals ( REGN ) shares edged 0.1% higher after the companies said that their Dupixent, or dupilumab, drug was approved in Japan for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, in adults.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was flat at $69.92 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas fell 2.1% to $3.84 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) gained 0.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) declined 1.4%.
Gold futures for June gained 0.7% to reach $3,113.50 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures advanced 0.9% to $35.41 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) were up 0.7%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.1% higher.
