09:39 AM EDT, 04/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Natural gas prices rose early on Monday on strong exports and some unseasonable cold weather in the Midwest that is boosting heating demand during the fuel's shoulder season.

Gas for May delivery was last seen up US$0.05 to US$3.58 per million British thermal units.

The rise comes as LNG exports climb on demand for Europe, with shipments last week rising to a new high on strong international demand.

"Feedgas for US LNG has crested the 16 Bcf/d mark on the back of strong utilizations and a steady ramp, and with the EU needing to restock, it seems that LNG will remain a supportive factor," Christopher Louney, a commodities strategist at RBC Capital Markets.

A bout of unseasonable cold in the Midwest is also boosting demand for the fuel.

"A late season cool shot will sweep across the Midwest Monday w/rain, snow, and chilly lows of 20s-30s, then into the eastern US Tue-Wed. A nice pattern will set up across much of the US late in the week besides the far northern US. Overall, LOW demand Monday, then Moderate demand the rest of the work week," NatGasWeather noted.
