06:41 AM EDT, 04/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that US President Donald Trump would consider tariff relief on Chinese imports if Beijing helps approve ByteDance's sale of TikTok to a non-Chinese buyer.

TikTok currently has an April 5 deadline to reach a sale agreement or face a potential US ban.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said he was not sure whether Chinese authorities would agree to a deal.

"You have a situation with TikTok where China will probably say, we'll approve a deal but will you do something on the tariff? The tariffs give us great power to negotiate. They always have," Trump was quoted as saying.

He also said a deal involving multiple investors for the sale of TikTok is "very close," though he did not provide further details.
