PANAMA CITY (Reuters) - Panama's police said on Sunday they had rejected an Interpol request to include former President Ricardo Martinelli in the database of the global police body, as the issue of red alerts for refugees or political asylum seekers was prohibited.

On Thursday, a top Panamanian official said the government of the Central American country had approved safe passage for Martinelli to travel to Nicaragua, where he has received asylum.
