Shares of electronic manufacturer, Kopin Corporation ( KOPN ) are trading higher in premarket on Wednesday.

The company said it has secured a major funding award from the U.S. Army to develop extended reality (XR) heads-up displays (HUD).

This project is designed to boost battlefield situational awareness by delivering a see-through HUD that enhances visual comfort and energy efficiency.

The off-the-visor (OTV) XR system introduces a brighter and more energy-efficient display, establishing a new benchmark for soldier comfort and operational effectiveness.

By tackling key challenges like power usage, latency, and eye strain, Kopin’s OTV prototypes are designed to provide an enhanced viewing experience.

The goal of this technology is to transform soldier performance and improve overall operational effectiveness.

Kopin ( KOPN ) has already completed the first wave of the prototypes, showcasing not only immediate improvements but also clear upgrade paths for next-generation microdisplays, including the Color MicroLED, AI-powered NeuralDisplay, and modular HUD systems like DayVAS and DarkWAVE.

“It’s about giving warfighters the tactical advantage — keeping their eyes on the fight, rather than down on a screen. We’re excited to demonstrate our prototypes and work toward full integration of our XR HUD solutions with other companies who have body worn computers, networking, and power management components,” said Director of Warfighter Vision, Nic Peterson.

By improving situational awareness and reducing potential threats, these XR prototypes are expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding troops. Financial details of the funding were not disclosed.

Price Action: KOPN shares traded higher by 3.79% at $1.38 in premarket at last check Wednesday.
