SAO PAULO, Jan 1 (Reuters) - Brazilian energy company Brava Energia said on Wednesday it started oil production on Dec. 31 at its FPSO Atlanta, located in the field of the same name, in the Santos Basin, and has stabilized at about 20,000 barrels per day.

Brava Energia is now the first independent oil and gas company in Brazil to develop a deepwater production system from the initial phase.

The company said in a press statement that it plans to invest around $1.2 billion in the project. The FPSO Atlanta has the capacity to produce up to 50,000 barrels of oil per day. (Reporting by Luciana Magalhaes Editing by Bill Berkrot)
