The new commission rate both eliminates tiered pricing, and reduces some customers' commissions by as much as 60 percent. This new pricing complements the announcement today that all new and existing customers can also take advantage of the best ETF deal among major brokerage companies by allowing investors to trade the most commission-free iShares® ETFs online - 25 in all -- online at Fidelity.* "In today's challenging market environment, customers expect more from their brokerage firm, in terms of institutional-grade resources such as trading tools, stock research, and certainly price," said James C. Burton, president of Fidelity's retail brokerage business. "Our new $7.95 online commission is a great value and will automatically reduce and simplify trading costs for millions of investors, whether they place hundreds of trades per year with Fidelity or just a handful. And, when a new brokerage customer joins Fidelity, they will know exactly what they will pay per trade from day one." The $7.95 U.S. online equity commissions are available to customers making U.S. trades online at Fidelity.com, through Active Trader Pro or Wealth-Lab Pro and on Fidelity's mobile trading platform, Fidelity Anywhere. This new simple pricing structure is reduced from a previous tiered range of $19.95 to $8 per trade, depending on asset level and trading volume1. Customers placing trades through Fidelity's Automated Service Telephone (FAST) will pay an additional $5 per trade ($12.95 total), and those placing trades through a representative will pay an additional $25 ($32.95 total) per trade. Fidelity is also reducing online option commissions on the same schedule as equities, plus $0.75 per contract. For investors not currently trading at Fidelity who want to take advantage of the firm's robust trading and research tools, and the new $7.95 pricing, it is easy and quick to open an account on Fidelity.com. "For years, Fidelity has set the bar in online brokerage by providing its customers with critical product and service advantages they can't get anywhere else," said Burton. "The combination of today's new low pricing and Fidelity's new industry leading commission-free ETF offering, along with innovative platform services such as direct international trading and extensive independent research ratings and reports, are what consistently set us apart from the competition," said Burton. Fidelity's other recent price reductions include cutting foreign trade commissions by roughly half, when it introduced direct international trading to 12 foreign markets last October. The firm has also made online U.S. Treasury trades commission-free to all investors.
